Tommy Kopetskie
Publisher

Prior to launching NorthRaleighSports.com, L.L.C., in the summer of 2009, Tommy Kopetskie worked at
The Wake Weekly
in Wake Forest for two and a half years, covering high school athletics.

During his tenure at the northern Wake County newspaper, Kopetskie won or shared more than a dozen North Carolina Press Association awards, including Best Sports Coverage (Communities, 3,500-10,000 circulation division) in 2007 and 2008. In 2008, he also captured first and second place in Sports News Reporting category.

Before joining The Wake Weekly staff, Kopetskie worked at The Brunswick Beacon in Shallotte for two-plus years, leading the newspaper's pagination department and covering the county's' sheriff department.

He is a graduate of Shippensburg University ('04) in Shippensburg, Pa., and served on the university's student newspaper, The Slate, for two-plus years. As a senior, Kopetskie was the publication's managing editor.

Born in Reading, Pa., and raised in the Poconos, Kopetskie played baseball and basketball in high school, but excelled in neither. (For those people interested, he was a marginal bench player in basketball, and a run-of-the-mill third baseman in baseball.)

As a high school junior, Kopetskie decided to become a sports journalist, and after earning a bachelor's degree, completing two internships and working for five years in newspapers, his career path has led him to this Web site dedicated to north Raleigh athletics. But this is what he knows best: prep sports.

On a personal note, Kopetskie's a die-hard University of Michigan and Buffalo Bills football fan. And he spends most of his free time with his wife, Heather, and Welsh terrier, Roscoe.
