Leesville Road takes 20 of 24 swimming events Dec. 1
The Leesville Road and Wakefield swim teams got in some early-season work last week, competing against East Wake and Wake Forest-Rolesville at N.C. State's Carmichael Complex Dec. 1.
And the Pride flexed plenty of muscle in the pool, winning 20 of the meet's 24 events.
Leesville got off to a fast start, winning the women's 200-yard medley relay. Maggie Feltman, Jillian Schoening, Hannah Stephenson and Abby Vance combined to swim a time of 2:01.33 to notch the victory.
Leesville also bested the competition in the men's 200-yard medley relay as Connor Blevins, Charlie Barker, Matthew Hurley and Scott Johnson finished in 1:46.88. Wakefield's Alex Eiden, Grayson Davis, Rafael Lopez and Matthew Tolley snagged second with a time of 1:51.10.
After taking home first in both 200 medley relays, the Pride continued to dominate the relay events, winning the women's 200-yard freestyle medley and sweeping the 400-yard freestyle races.
Wakefield's Jak Kieffer, Matt Yovanovich, Matthew Tolley and Davis broke Leesville's relay run, winning the men's 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.10.
Individually, Vance shined for the Pride, winning the 200-yard freestyle as well as the 100-yard freestyle.
Vance finished the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.27, less than three tenths of a second ahead of Wakefield's Kiera Malloy. Feltman took third and Wakefield's Maddy Radwan placed fourth.
Leesville's Rachel Mulligan took first in the women's 200-yard IM and Garbarino finished second. Garbarino later captured first in the women's 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.90 — the only female competitor to finish under a minute. Wakefield's Kiera Mallory took second.

Wakefield's Patrick Leger grabs a quick breath while swimming last week.
The Wolverines' Davis captured second in the men's 100-yard butterfly, finishing behind East Wake's Macon Crowder. It was the Warriors' lone victory of the day. (WF-R went home empty-handed.)
Leesville's Hurley took first in the men's 200-yard freestyle (1:56.60), and Chris Pollenz (1:59.36) placed second. Pollenz later won the men's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:14.99, defeating Johnson by less than a second.
Eiden scored Wakefield's only two individual wins, narrowly defeating Hurley with a time of 2:09.09 in the men's 200-yard IM. Hurley finished just four hundreths of a second behind. The Wolverine swimmer also place first in the men's 100-yard backstroke.
In addition to winning the women's 100-yard backstroke, Stephenson won the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26:19, just beating Wakefield's Shani Ervin (26:20) and Alanna Albrecht (27:31).
Leesville's Johnson and Jon Laird took first and second, respectively, in the men's 50-yard freestyle. In the men's 100-yard freestyle, the Pride capture first and second again as Blevins and Austin Layman led the way.
In the women's 500-yard freestyle, Leesville's McCauley bested the competition, finishing with a time of 5:43.76, nearly 16 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Lexi Lavelle of Wakefield.
Schoening (1:12.04) and Charlie Barker (1:06.59) helped the Pride win both 100-yard breaststroke events.
Leesville Road and Wakefield return to action together Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary at 7 p.m. Enloe and Holly Springs are also slated to compete.
