Lady Wolverines clinch third golf win
The Wakefield girls golf team continued its early-season roll Wednesday afternoon at Wil-Mar Golf Course in Raleigh, tallying its third consecutive match victory.
The Lady Wolverines' Morgan Schultz (41), Katie Yelle (42) and Stephanie Pribonic (44) combined to shoot a team score of 127, besting Broughton by three strokes.
With only four league matches remaining, the victory gives Wakefield a four-point lead in the total points. (Click here for complete results.)
Broughton's Mary Morgan Bitler shot a low score of 40 Wednesday, breaking Schultz's hold on the medalist honors — the Wakefield freshman won the conference's first two matches. Schultz and the Capitals' J.B. Shavlik finished one stroke off the lead.
Leesville Road's Mary Lee Free continues to cut strokes off her game, recording a round of 46 Wednesday. The Pride's Kaity Fuqua also shot a 46.
Najah Owens led Sanderson, finishing with a 49. Alex Klimczyk (50) paced Millbrook.
The Cap-7 Conference's next golf match is Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Wildwood Green in north Raleigh. The match starts at 3:30 p.m.
